The Portuguese tradition of mackerel processing

THE PLANT IN VILA DO CONDE

THE PLANT IN PORTUGAL

since always synonymous with ASdoMAR mackerel.

Right from the beginning, they have been a preferred supplier, and when the company entered a crisis period in 2006 and risked closure, we decided to take over its management, to avoid losing a unique heritage of processing mastery that we know so well. After 5 years of management and its complete relaunch, ASdoMAR completed its acquisition of the plant in 2011.

This endeavour enabled us to preserve the experience of approximately 150 women in the traditional processing of mackerel, know-how that would have been annihilated had operations ceased.

NOW MORE MODERN AND RESPECTFUL OF THE ENVIRONMENT

thanks to major structural interventions sustained by ASdoMAR

Between 2012 and 2014, we launched a program to improve the plant’s industrial processes, with a substantial reduction in environmental impacts linked to energy consumption, air emissions and water consumption.

Of the total investment of over 2 million euros, 30% was co-financed by the European Union and by the Portuguese government.

PRODUCTS

of Portuguese quality

ASDOMAR MACKEREL

All phases of production of ASdoMAR mackerel take place in our plant, and the raw material is fished by local fishing co-ops in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean onto which the plant faces.

Processing is done almost entirely by hand, by expert artisans in mackerel cleaning and preparation.

ASDOMAR SALMON

Since 2012, the plant has acquired a new production line: ASdoMAR salmon.

It is a high-quality product, processed with the same artisanal care that is our distinctive trait.

ASDOMAR SKIPJACK TUNA

In recent years, the production of Skipjack fillets has also been started. The craftsmanship has allowed the launch of some novelties such as grilled tuna fillets and tuna fillets with extra virgin olive oil.

ZERO PROCESSING SCRAP

for ASdoMAR mackerel and salmon

By giving the scrap to the plants of external suppliers that produce fish flour for animal husbandry and pet food.

Very high energy efficiency and environmental performance levels.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

Over 98,000 € in expenses and investments to mitigate environmental impacts in 2022

CO2 EMISSIONS

Reduced by approximately 30% and elimination of fine particulate with the shift from fuel oil to liquefied natural gas in the raw material cooking process.

RECOVERY OF STEAM CONDENSATE

The facility has implemented a system for the recovery of steam condensate, produced by boilers, for reuse.

100% RECYCLING

Plastic, Steel, Wood, Paper and Cardboard all sent 100% for recycling.

WATER SYSTEM

The project for modernisation of the water system within the plant was completed in 2014 and has reduced the loss of water and steam in the plant.

NO COMPLAINTS

Once again in 2022, there were no formal complaints or disputes regarding the plant’s environmental impact, nor any fines or sanctions received for non-compliance with environmental regulations and legislatio
